Finally! Mom had her last bag of Taxotere and is now on her last bag of Carboplatin. No more chemo! She’ll come back next week for Herceptin and then will start coming only every 3 weeks for the Herceptin treatment through next Spring.
I hadn’t been able to come with her to any chemo treatments, so I definitely wanted to come with her to the last one. I’m so happy that this part of her treatment is over. Of course, all her doctors call her a “model patient” and she really really looks good! We called Aunt Glenda on our way here this morning and she said “Y’all sound like you’re going to a day spa or something!” Mom really has a positive attitude which I have no doubt contributes to how well she’s doing.
I pray that anyone going through chemo can have even half the blessings that my Mom has. Having a network of good friends, supportive family, understanding coworkers, and caring medical staff has made this process unbelievably smooth. Of course, there have been bad days, and I’m sure she’ll be out for a few days after this treatment. But considering my initial expectations and what I thought this process would be like, I’m grateful that I can hear the smile in my Mom’s voice every day when I talk to her. I truly believe that her positive attitude has been the most important component of her treatment.
Have I mentioned that my Mom rocks?
